Noochii Hive Mini

£895.00

The shortest of the horizontal Noochii Hive range, the Mini is beautifully designed and carefully handmade using the best and most sustainable materials.

  • The Noochii Hive Mini is a horizontal or long hive. It consists of a single box containing all of the frames on the same level.

  • It is designed to house 1 colony of honey bees.

  • There is space for 20 National 14 x 12 frames. These frames are much taller than standard National brood frames so the colony has plenty of room for brood and stores.

  • The hive is made from an incredible timber called Accoya. There is more information about this amazing timber here.

  • The Noochii Hive is extremely well insulated thanks to the thick timber walls and the additional layers of insulating material built into the walls and roof. This material is made from recycled plastic bottles.

  • The roof has a custom made aluminium cover to help protect the hive from the worst of the weather (although the Accoya is guaranteed for 50 years!)

  • The hive is very easy to open thanks to the assistance of a gas strut.

  • All of the frames can be easily accessed without any heavy lifting. There are no supers to remove when inspecting the brood. The brood frames will be the 8-10 frames nearest the entrance and the rest of the frames will be stores.

  • The crownboards are made from marine ply.

  • There are 3 entrances on the back of the hive. The entrances are 25mm diameter holes on the outside with internal baffles. They have been designed this way to be closer to the kind of entrances wild colonies seem to prefer. It is thought that this style of entrance is easier for bees to defend from wasps, and is mouse-proof. Another benefit is that they are simple to close with a cork.

  • The hive has a mesh floor below which are 2 Varroa inspection trays. These trays can be used to seal the floor in winter. (Hive in the image has a solid floor)

  • The powder-coated hairpin legs are low maintenance, put the hive at a comfortable working height, and look great!

Optional Extras:

  • Observation windows: These can be added at each end and are a great way of seeing what is going on inside the hive without disrupting the bees. Seeing the bees working in the cells is fascinating - kids especially enjoy this! £40 each.

  • Feeder space: The hive can be build with space above the crownboards to accommodate an English/Rapid style feeder.
