6-Nuc Noochii Hive

£1,295.00

A beautifully designed 6 x 5-frame Nucleus Colony Beehive.
Carefully handmade using the best and most sustainable materials.

  • This Noochii Hive is a horizontal or long hive. It consists of a single box containing all of the frames on the same level.

  • It is designed to house up to 6 nucleus colonies.

  • There is space for 6 x 5-frame colonies, either National or Langstroth size.

  • The hive comes with 5 Divider Boarders (also called Follower Boards) which can be positioned anywhere along the hive. This feature makes this hive extremely versatile, and it’s possible to have any combination of colony sizes. For example, you might have a large colony and a couple of small nucs.

  • The hive is made from an incredible timber called Accoya. There is more information about this amazing timber here.

  • The Noochii Hive is extremely well insulated thanks to the thick timber walls and the additional layers of insulating material built into the walls and roof. This insulating material is made from recycled plastic bottles.

  • The roof has a custom made aluminium cover with welded corners to help protect the hive from the worst of the weather (although the Accoya is guaranteed for 50 years!)

  • The hive is very easy to open thanks to the assistance of gas struts.

  • All of the frames can be easily accessed without any heavy lifting. There are no supers to remove when inspecting the bees.

  • There are 6 Perspex crownboards which make it possible to see every frame without opening the hive or exposing the bees.

  • The observation windows at each end are another way of seeing what is going on inside the hive without disrupting the bees. Seeing the bees working on the comb is fascinating - kids especially enjoy this!

  • Each crownboard has a feeder hole, making it possible to feed each nuc separately, depending on their need.

  • There are 6 entrances; 3 on the front and 3 on the back.
The entrances are 25mm diameter holes on the outside with internal baffles. They have been designed this way to be closer to the kind of entrances wild colonies seem to prefer. It is thought that this style of entrance is easier for bees to defend from wasps, and they are mouse-proof. Another benefit is that they are simple to close with a cork.

  • The hive has a mesh floor. Below this are 3 Varroa inspection trays. These trays can be raised to seal the floor in winter.

  • The powder-coated hairpin legs are low maintenance, put the hive at a comfortable working height, and look great!

  • All of the fixings and hinges are either stainless steel or aluminium, apart from the gas struts. These will tarnish and begin to rust over time.
